In today’s post: Learn how to make easy eyeball cookies for Halloween! This is a fun Halloween treat you can make with your kids in about half an hour.
Easy Halloween Treat
These eyeball cookies turn out so cute! Here’s why you’ll love them:
- They’re made with a super quick, four ingredient peanut butter cookie recipe.
- The eyes are made from candy melts and chocolate chips, which means they taste good, unlike the hard, crunchy candy eyeballs you can purchase.
- They’re perfect for a Halloween party or just a fun afternoon of baking with your kids. Who doesn’t want to eat an eyeball cookie?
Ingredients
Here’s what you need to make Halloween Eyeball Cookies:

- Peanut Butter

- Red Candy Melts (aka candy wafers, found in the cake decorating section)
- Chocolate Chips
Eyeball Cookies Video
I made a quick video so you can see exactly how I create the eyes on these cookies! Written instructions follow and there’s a printable recipe card at the end of the post.
Make the Cookies
This recipe is so easy! Just mix the cake mix, eggs, melted butter and peanut butter together with a wooden spoon. Scoop balls of dough, roll them in granulated sugar, and flatten slightly with the bottom of a cup or bowl.
Then bake the tray of cookies 9-10 minutes, until edges feel just set and tops are cracked:
Add the Eyeballs
As soon as you pull the tray of cookies out of the oven you’ll add the eyes. Hold one red candy melt at a bit of an angle and push it into the first cookie, then push down the other side and wiggle it a bit. You want the red candy melt to sit just under the top of the cookie as you can see below.
Repeat with all the cookies on the tray. Then go back to the first cookie and add a white candy melt. Again, hold it at an angle and push it into the (now melty) red candy. Then push down the other side and wiggle it back and forth a bit so the red candy comes up over the edges of the white candy. Repeat with all the white candies and place the tray of cookies back into the warm oven for 90 seconds. Then you can place a chocolate chip, flat side up, in the center of each cookie to complete the eyeball.
